25km TT Trail run

General info

We think Australian Alps walking track is almost purpose built trail running paradise and we decided to introduce Baw Baw Extreme time trial run. The 25 km course showcases an incredible variety of the Victorian Alps terrain and takes you for a scenic and rewarding run from O’Shears campground to Mt Baw Baw resort. You will gain over 1500 meters!

Starting from meters-wide centuries-old over 80m tall gum trees and sub-tropical rainforest, you will climb to sub-alpine and then alpine vegetation in one go.

This is a unique one-way course. The transfer is offered if you do not have a support crew.

The course

Straight after the start, you will enter the alpine wilderness. This 25km section follows along one of the most remote sections of the Australian Alps walking track. The first 10km of the leg is a major uphill, up to the gravel road. Turn left on the road and follow the road until the end - this is the last turning point - Mt Erica car park.

You will still be going uphill and in about 1.5km you will reach a spectacular Mushroom rocks site. Another steep pinch and you will arrive to Mt. Erica and Talbot Peak soon after. Even though it’s not the highest points, you have completed the majority of climbing and until the village, the track is undulating. On the turn-off, you will see the sign “Baw Baw is 5km away”. You are nearly there. Then there is only a couple of small uphills to negotiate before you get to the top of a downhill slope, where you have less than a kilometre to go.

We expect the fast times to be around 3 hours, while it can take up to 6-7 hours if you walk all the way up.

Plan your nutrition accordingly. There are some creeks on the way, but you do not have a constant access to them, so carrying 2-3 litres of water is recommended as well as water purification.
